SABC dismisses retrenchment reports as inaccurate – SABC News
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has denied reports that the public broadcaster is planning retrenchments.
The SABC says reports claiming there are plans for retrenchments are simply not accurate.
According to the statement released by the SABC, the public broadcaster says it continues to operate with strong governance and accountability, as confirmed by the Auditor General’s unqualified audit opinion for the past financial year and the year before.
SABC Head of Communications, Mmoni Ngubane, says, “Where operational challenges are identified, these are addressed internally thought established systems and processes, and do not warrant the kind of speculation currently circulating.”
Meanwhile, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) says it will observe the International Day for Decent Work on Tuesday with a National Day of Action.
COSATU says the day of action will be centred on retrenchments, weak economic growth, and the rising cost of living.
The federation says that it will also act on companies that are still not paying workers pension fund deductions to the relevant.
