Hlabisa visits troubled Ditsobotla Municipality following takeover – SABC News

Minister of Co-operative Governance Velekosini Hlabisa is visiting the embattled Lichtenburg-based Ditsobotla Local Municipality in the North West Province on Monday to engage the municipal council and management.

This follows a decision for national government to take over the running of the municipality, and the re-election of the mayor and the speaker last month.

Hlabisa’s follow-up visit comes after the recent election of new political leadership in the municipality.

The Minister will engage with the municipal leadership on priorities for restoring stability and service delivery and assessing progress on the implementation of the financial recovery plan.

The Ditsobotla Local Municipality has, for years, been synonymous with a lack of service delivery, months of non-payment of salaries, and paying of ghost workers.

Hlabisa is expected to have an engagement with residents in Coligny and conclude his visit with an oversight visit at Boikhutso Storm Water and Itsoseng Road Paving.
