Continued existence of PKTT justified: Mkhwanazi – SABC News

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has told Parliament that the continued existence of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) is justified.

He was delivering testimony before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee that was set up to investigate allegations around national security.

The committee was established to assess the wide-ranging claims of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system, that Mkhwanazi made in July.

He was asked if he feels the Task Team was successful, to which he answered that the results stemming from it, showed good work being done.

The police general added that its continued existence is positive in terms of crime prevention.

“Yes, correct, still exist. We are quite happy with that. Considering facing elections, (we) wouldn’t want what happened in past to happen again,” says Mkhwanazi.

The evidence leader appointed by Parliament, Advocate Norman Arendse SC, explained that after consultation with Mkhwanazi, the statement has been amended.

“Apologies for delay and inconvenience caused. We have amended the statement by deleting any reference to initial and supplementary deleting that,” said Arendse.
