Limpopo police hunt suspect after eight-year-old girl raped at home
Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to the rape of an eight-year-old girl.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said it is alleged that the mother left her child asleep alone in a one-roomed house, with the door closed and locked.
“During this time, a suspect known to the child forced open a window, entered the house, and raped the child. He thereafter threatened her not to report the incident to her mother.
“Upon returning home, the complainant was informed of the incident by the victim and immediately reported the matter to the police.”
He said the case docket was subsequently transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.
Efforts to trace the suspect have so far been unsuccessful.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Brian Mtebuye, on 0788387110 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or visit the nearest police station or use the MySAPS App.
Three days ago, the IOL reported that the Seshego Regional Court had sentenced a 40-year-old Limpopo man after convicting him of raping and sexually grooming a 12-year-old boy.
The case was transferred to the Seshego family violence, child protection, and sexual offences unit. The accused was arrested and remained in custody until the conclusion of the trial.
