Matlala, co-accused return to court in Thobejane assassination case – SABC News

Businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and four others are set to return to the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Tuesday. They are accused of orchestrating the failed assassination of socialite and Matlala’s former partner, Tebogo Thobejane, in October 2023.

The incident occurred while Thobejane and a friend were driving in Sandton, Johannesburg, when they came under fire from unknown gunmen.

The appearance comes after the latest failed bail bid by Matlala, who will remain behind bars pending the trial.

The five accused, including Matlala’s wife, Tsakani Matlala, face serious charges ranging from attempted murder to money laundering.

The National Prosecuting Authority hints at the possibility of additional charges being brought against the accused.

During the bail application last month, the prosecution revealed that Thobejane has since fled the country, citing ongoing fears for her safety.
