SA Flotilla activists arrive safely in Jordan, en route home – SABC News
South Africa’s government says its flotilla activists have safely arrived in Jordan, marking the first step in their journey home.
The delegation was welcomed by South Africa’s Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Tselane Mokuena.
Minister Ronald Lamola expresses gratitude to all who helped secure their safe passage, while stressing that the government’s role was purely diplomatic. He has thanked all relevant parties, both domestically and internationally, for ensuring the return of the South Africans.
Israeli forces detained the activists in international waters while en route to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
“The Department of International Relations and Cooperation has confirmed the safe arrival of the Flotilla activists in Jordan. South Africa’s Ambassador to Jordan, Tselane Mokuena, was present to receive the delegation on behalf of the country. The department further says that the activists are expected to arrive at OR Tambo International Airport tomorrow morning. ”
The families and solidarity groups covered the travel costs. The activists are expected to arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport on Wednesday morning.
