Lightning at Kwagga Station plunges Pretoria into darkness – SABC News
Parts of Pretoria, including Hatfield, the Bryntion Estate supply area and surrounding areas remain without power following a fault on the City of Tshwane’s network.
The municipality says efforts are underway to restore supply. Large parts of the western, southern, and northern areas of the city were affected after a trip at the Kwagga 275/132kV infeed substation last night, reportedly caused by lightning.
The city’s Lindela Mashigo says the estimated time of restoration remains unknown.
“Our switching team has been dispatched to attend to the fault, and restoration work will begin as soon as the problem is identified. At present, the estimated time of restoration (ETR) is not yet known. Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain patient as technicians work to safely isolate and repair the fault. Power will be restored in staged once the system has been stabilised.”
