Mkhwanazi faces questions on personal, family safety – SABC News
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says he does not regard the safety of his family as more important than other South Africans.
He is testifying for the second day before Parliament’s ad hoc committee looking into concerns of national security. It was established to probe allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference in the criminal justice system, which Mkhwanazi made in July.
On Tuesday, Mkhwanazi’s evidence was led by the evidence leader Advocate Norman Arendse, and today he is facing questions from members of the committee.
Asked whether his family is safe, Mkhwanazi answered that their safety remains in the hands of SAPS members…
“Safety of my family is the responsibility of men and women in blue, who don’t have money to hire bodyguards, so safety is only guaranteed by men and women in blue. Their safety and vulnerability apply to the rest of the family; no special provisions for them.”

The session resumed with Mkhwanazi continuing his testimony, this time focusing on businessman Brown Mogotsi’s proximity to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Mkhwanazi alleged that Mogotsi had access to sensitive police information, including internal documents and operational details, raising serious concerns about breaches of confidentiality and political interference.
He also expressed concern for his family’s safety but said he remains confident that the men and women in blue will protect them.
