Two students injured during protests at UFH – SABC News

Two students from the University of Fort Hare (UFH) in the Eastern Cape have been taken to hospital after sustaining injuries clashing with police.
The students allege it is gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred in the Alice Campus where students have been protesting since Monday, demanding to hold SRC elections and the resignation of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sakhela Buhlungu.
Police allegedly intervened after the students clashed with the security company which has been contracted by the university.
In retaliation to the incident the students have allegedly set alight the administration and Student Affairs’ buildings.
Student leader Uzusiphe Vuzane believes the shots fired were through live ammunition.
“There is chaos that has erupted on campus students were fighting with falcon security allegedly but confirmed police officers they shot students using real bullets here in Alice Campus. The other student was shot on the left knee the other student was shot just above the heart near the shoulder.”
