Dingamazi residents’ blockade R81 over public transport dispute – SABC News
Protesting residents at Dingamazi village outside Giyani, Limpopo, have blockaded the R81 over public transport concerns.
Protesters are unhappy after a local Khomanani taxi association allegedly stopped the reintroduction of the Great North Transport buses on the route.
Residents say that they want the buses to operate as there’s a problem with public transport in the area. Taxis and buses are not operating. The taxi association and the government bus company are yet to comment on the ongoing feud.
Protesters’ spokesperson Eunice Maluleke says they want the government to intervene.
“Yesterday, the Khomanani taxi association blocked the Great North Transport from operating and they did not allow the residents to use their taxis. The residents were left stranded without transport from Giyani to Dingamazi, Shimange na Silawa. The community has blocked the R81; they are demanding that the Department of Transport come and resolve their issues.”
