Masemola says he has been informed of raid at Sibiya’s home – SABC News

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says he was informed about the raid at the home of suspended Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya when the Ad Hoc Committee was taking a break.

Thursday was the first day that Masemola testified before the committee.

It was set up to investigate allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system.

Masemola says he was briefed that the officers were not going to make an arrest but were looking for electronic gadgets.

Asked by the evidence leader Advocate Norman Arendse about the raid, Masemola assured the committee that Sibiya will appear before it next week…

“When I got the brief, that is exactly what I was told that they were looking for gadgets not for arresting people but were looking for gadgets.”

Sibiya on the hand has said he expects to be arrested and charged soon.

This follows a search and seizure operation carried out at his home in Centurion, Johannesburg.

Sibiya says he believes that this investigation is aimed at ousting him from SAPS.

“I am waiting to have my day at the Madlanga Commission and ultimately I will be charged and I expect to be pushed out. That is what this whole thing is all about. Remember, I have been through an eye of the needle. All of them are from KZN of course and that is unfortunate that this is how one province decides to behave the way it is and the whole country is allowing it to carry on the way it’s carrying on.”
