Ngizwe Mchunu ordered to retract comments about LGBTQI+ community – SABC News

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) has issued a letter to media personality Ngizwe Mchunu, ordering him to immediately stop publishing or promoting content that incites violence or discriminates against the LGBTQI+ community.

The commission has found that his utterances constitute prima facie violations of the Equality Act.

This follows complaints of alleged harassment and hate speech linked to remarks made against the LGBTQI+ community on social media.

Spokesperson Wisani Baloyi says Mchunu has also been ordered to remove all offensive content from his social media platforms.

“Mchunu must remove all offending content from his social media platforms and associated channels within 24 hours of receipt of the letter; and issue a public retraction and apology, acknowledging the harm caused and (he must) commit to refrain from such conduct in future.”
