Bhengu-Motsiri pays tribute to Mthethwa’s role in political education – SABC News

Friends, family and African National Congress (ANC) members have described the late South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa as a great political educator.

They were speaking at Mthethwa’s memorial service, which the ANC hosted at eMpangeni in KwaZulu-Natal, yesterday.

ANC National Spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri was one of the speakers.

“The ANC is talking about political education as part of the renewal of the soul, the moral fibre of the ANC. Comrade Nathi has done political education and political development not just by standing in front of a class but by being an example. We have a political school. We need to pay tribute to Comrade Nathi. He was the first person who was given that task, together with Comrade Kgalema Motlanthe, to start this political school,” says Bhengu-Motsiri.

She has warned members against using their political education to divide the party.

“We must not allow the culture of learning to end and we must not allow for our political education to be used to the detriment of the ANC by ANC members and ANC leaders. We must ensure that as we approach elections next year, one of the key criteria is how politically developed you are, how you have transferred your political development and how you have not used it to build factions within the organization,” she adds.
