Minister Motsoaledi warns that healthcare for profit is a danger – SABC News

The increasing financialisation of healthcare and its impact on economic growth have come under the spotlight at the annual Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation Drakensberg Inclusive Growth Forum on Saturday.

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has warned about the dangers of investing in healthcare for profit instead of well-being.

He has also urged a shift in focus from the curing of illnesses to disease prevention.

The Forum is a gathering of thought leaders and policymakers to discuss strategies for fostering inclusive economic growth.

Under the theme ‘Defining the national interest’, the annual Kgalema Motlanthe Growth Forum is calling for greater focus on geopolitics, trade and inclusive growth as priorities.

Delegates heard that global uncertainty also creates new spaces for policy experimentation and autonomous development.

The Kgalema Motlanthe Inclusive Growth Forum convenes policymakers, leaders in business, labour, and academia to deliberate on policy discussions aimed at resolving challenges that undermine inclusive economic growth.
