Funeral of SA Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa to be held in KZN – SABC News

Preparations have been finalised for the funeral of South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, in KwaZulu-Natal this Sunday morning.

He was found dead in a Paris hotel’s inner courtyard after falling from the 22nd floor more than a week ago.

Mthethwa’s funeral service will take place at the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Complex in KwaMbonambi, in the north-east of Richards Bay.

Ambassador Mthethwa’s funeral service will start at his home around eight this morning. His mortal remains will then be taken to the local stadium to afford his community, as well as his political organisation, the African National Congress and South Africans in general to bid him farewell.

Activities at the stadium will entail ceremonial elements performed by members of the SAPS in keeping with the Special Official Funeral Category 2 as declared by the President.

The KZN Premier will welcome the mourners, followed by an eulogy from President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mthethwa will be laid to rest in his yard according to his wishes and by noon as per tradition.
