Children of the late South Africa’s ambassador to France Nathi Mthethwa have described him as a man of virtue.

The late ambassador has been honoured as a pillar of wisdom, an attentive parent, and someone who was more than just a father.

Paying tribute on behalf of the children, Mkhululi Mthethwa says his father was a man of virtue, integrity, courage, and honesty, whose presence will always be missed.

“Where does one begin to bid farewell to you, Nyambose…a person who was so much more than the title of being a father. In times of loss and misdirection, you were our compass, a fountain for those who seek the test of knowledge, a shelter from the storm, and at times, the storm itself. As your children, we know and understand that you did all you could to prepare us for the realities of this world. Perhaps the reality that brings us here today might be the one lesson we have missed.”

Dignitaries from different political parties, cultural and religious groups are among mourners at Mthethwa’s funeral service at the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Complex at Kwambonambi in KwaZulu-Natal.

South Africa’s ambassador to Argentina Phumelele Gwala says Mthethwa was an activist who also loved theatre and sports.

“On February 16 2013, Nyambose tied the knot with the love of his life, Ms. Philisiwe Buthelezi-Mthethwa, who will remember him as a nurturer, warrior and refuge. His children – Mkhululi, Mxolisi, Nombuso, Senzekile, Ayanda and Zinathi – have lost not only a father but a teacher, a pillar whose many lessons he bequeathed in his lifetime.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa also delivers the eulogy.
