EC government warns of supply chain scam involving impersonator – SABC News
The Eastern Cape provincial government has issued a warning about a scam involving individuals who impersonate government officials in the supply chain management sector.
The provincial government says the scammers demand money in exchange for tender opportunities at the office of the premier.
Provincial government spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie says it is alleged that contacts are made by a Brian Williams who claims to be a supply chain management employee at the office of the premier.
“The Office of the Premier wishes to make it categorically clear that there is no Brian Williams who is under its employ, and also that no money is ever required for government tenders or procurement opportunities to be approved. All legitimate tender processes are conducted transparently, in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and established supply chain management regulations. The Office of the Premier condemns these fraudulent activities, urging service providers to be vigilant and to report any suspicious communication immediately to law enforcement agencies.”
