Free State Premier confident new Sonskyn Police Station will serve community better – SABC News
Free State Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae says she is hopeful that the newly built Sonskyn Police Station will serve the community of Phase 5 in Bloemfontein with pride.
The Premier was joined by the acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia during the opening of the newly built station.
Some residents have been complaining for years about lack of policing in their area.

The police station used to operate as a satellite station but closed its doors at night after two police officers were shot at and disarmed by criminals in February 2017.
“As you know that when you call a police station a satellite there are limited activities that would take place here. So, today we are happy that I pleaded with them in that time I was still the MEC of Community Safety, Roads and Transport. I said the only time you will come and handover this police station it’s when you declare it as a fully fledge police station. Because due to the issues that are surrounding this area and the community here.
And as I indicated that Bloemspruit really had a lot of cases and people were far from Bloemspruit. Today I’m over the moon and I don’t know I’m in short of words to express my happiness that the SAPS have declared this police station as a fully fledge station that is going to serve our people in almost four wards in Mangaung”, says Letsoha-Mathae.
