Holomisa to testify at Cradock Four inquest – SABC News
The family of Fort Calata, one of the Cradock Four, says it is happy with the proceedings of the inquest so far.
The inquest into the deaths of Calata, Matthew Goniwe, Sicelo Mhlauli, and Sparrow Mkonto, will resume with its second sitting in the High in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape today.
Mbulelo Goniwe, the nephew of the late Matthew Goniwe and former chairperson of the Transkei Military Council Bantu Holomisa are among those who are expected to testify.
The Cradock 4 were beaten, strangled with telephone wire, stabbed and shot to death in one of the most notorious killings of South Africa’s apartheid era.
Lukhanyo Calata is the son of Fort Calata says, “In that first inquest in 1987 or 88, was led in Afrikaans. And my mom speaks Afrikaans, but for the other widows, they didn’t know what was happening because the large part of that inquest was in Afrikaans. And they weren’t allowed to testify or give evidence or give testimony. This has been the first inquest where they were allowed to go to the witness box. So, it’s been really healing that we’ve had the opportunity to be heard by a court of law with regards to the murders of our fathers.”
