Presidential protection officer on the run for murder, takes own life – SABC News

A police officer attached to the presidential protection service who was sought for allegedly shooting and killing a fellow officer and for the attempted murder of his wife in Gauteng, has shot and killed himself in Limpopo.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the officer first shot at the police who had cornered him on the R555 outside Burgersfort.

Ledwaba says Limpopo commissioner Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident.

“Following intelligence about the member’s movement, Limpopo police intercepted a white Nissan vehicle he was driving. The suspect allegedly fired a shot towards police officers, and when cornered, he turned the firearm on himself. The firearm used was confirmed to the state issued pistol. The provincial police commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident, expressing deep concern over the continued loss of lives due to domestic-related violence, particularly involving law enforcement members.”
