Scholar transport in EC expected to resume after suspension – SABC News
The Eastern Cape Transport Department says is working around the clock to ensure scholar transport in the province resumes on Tuesday.
This follows after learners dependent on the scholar transport were left stranded Monday.
Scholar transport operators suspended their services due to non and late payments.
Provincial Transport Department Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, says the delay in payment is caused by a number of issues.
Meanwhile, the United Democratic Movement (UDM) in the Eastern Cape blames the ruling party within the province for the delays in scholar transport payments.
In their statement UDM states that this has been happening for more than a decade but provincial government has ignored every warning about late payments, therefore they believe that the situation has now reached breaking point.
π Scholar transport chaos in the Eastern Cape is no accident, itβs the result of decades of failure. Thousands of learners are stranded while funds vanish, and court orders are ignored. The UDM demands urgent provincial action to fix this crisis. #RightToEducationβ¦ pic.twitter.com/pTJtyoNF9a
