Auditor-General paints bleak picture of SABC finances – SABC News

The Auditor-General (AG) has painted a worrying picture of the South African National Broadcaster’s (SABC) financial health.

This is despite receiving a second consecutive unqualified audit.

The AG has raised concerns over cash flow, revenue targets and a high rate of TV licence non-compliance.

It presented audit outcomes for the financial year ending March 2025 to Parliament, noting that while the SABC secured an unqualified audit for the second year in a row, there are significant risks facing the organisation.

Business Unit Leader at the Auditor General South Africa, Nathan Lawnet, says, “SABC has used up the funds in terms of the bailout. We do note the financial position, meaning the assets do exceed their liabilities, where they revalued in their fixed assets and their investment property. So, definitely, the balance sheet looks much better, but some of the key concern indicators are still out there where there’s a significant cash reduction in their bank balance where it reduced from R401 million to about R58 million.”
