Eastern Cape man arrested for shoelace murder outside wedding ceremony
An Eastern Cape man has been arrested for the murder of a man who was found dead inside a vehicle.
A 37-year-old non-verbal man from Qunu was arrested after a 45-year-old man was found dead in a vehicle following a wedding ceremony. He had been fatally strangled.
Police spokesperson Welile Matyolo said that the victim was found dead inside a Toyota Quantum on Friday morning.
“It is alleged that the intoxicated victim was asleep in the Quantum during a wedding ceremony when the suspect used a shoelace to strangle him to death,” said Matyolo.
Matyolo further stated that preliminary investigations led to the recovery of the deceased’s belongings from the suspect, as he claimed that revenge was the motive behind his action, as he was once stabbed by the deceased but survived.
“The male suspect, who is unable to speak and communicates only with the assistance of a sign language expert, is expected to appear before the Bityi Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, facing a murder charge,” said Matyolo.
