Promising No 8 keeps World Cup hopes alive
The Brumbies have locked in one of their brightest young forwards with a contract extension through to the end of 2027.
But more importantly, the deal keeps 25-year-old Cam Cale in the Wallabies frame for Australia’s home Rugby World Cup, as the national setup continues to solidify ahead of a highly anticipated tournament on home soil.
Cale’s re-signing comes hot on the heels of Carter Gordon’s return from rugby league and Mark Nawaqanitawase’s decision to stay in the 15-man code – further signs that Australian rugby’s top talents are recommitting to the Wallabies’ long-term vision.

Though injury has limited Cale to just two Test appearances, his breakout 2024 season showcased the explosive athleticism that makes him one of the most exciting back-row prospects in Australian rugby.
“I’m stoked to be staying at the Brumbies and here in Australia for at least another two years,” Cale said.
“The Brumbies are the club that gave me my first opportunity, and I know I can keep improving on and off the field while building towards something special as a group. It’s been a frustrating time being sidelined, but I’m motivated to work hard and get back on the field as soon as I can. I’m excited to play footy again.”
Rugby Australia’s Director of High Performance Peter Horne said Cale’s athleticism gives him an edge when fit.
“Charlie is a good young player who’s had an interrupted year, but we know what he’s capable of. His athleticism provides a real point of difference in the back row.”
Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham echoed the sentiment.
“We’re very happy to keep Charlie at the club. He’s got brilliant skills for a back-rower and a great attitude. It’s been a tough year with injury, but he’s kept his head high and will be eager to make a big impact in 2026 and beyond.”
