Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo expected in court – SABC News

Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo, is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

This after the recusal of the Acting Chief Magistrate Vusi Mahlangu.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi implicated Mahlangu in wrongdoing when he alleged that some officers in the judiciary were colluding with criminals.

Khumalo and other senior officials were arrested in June.

They face charges related to the alleged irregular appointment of Dineo Mokwele to a senior post in Crime Intelligence, allegedly without proper vetting.

Khumalo has approached the court to have his bail conditions relaxed after an internal probe cleared him.

Proceedings took a twist on Tuesday when presiding Magistrate Vusumuzi Mahlangu recused himself from continuing with the matter. A new magistrate is expected to take over on Wednesday.

Part of the bail conditions set for Khumalo, and his co-accused, is that they do not enter the Crime Intelligence offices.

Khumalo, who recently testified at the Madlanga Commission, fell ill two weeks ago while giving evidence and was booked off indefinitely.
