Dumisani Khumalo, co-accused case postponed to November – SABC News

The case against Crime Intelligence Head Dumisani Khumalo and his co-accused has been postponed to November 6.

The postponement is to allow the state to file an application for the review of the decision by Chief Magistrate Vusimuzi Mahlangu to recuse himself.

Mahlangu announced his decision on Tuesday.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi raised concern over Mahlangu’s handling of the matter at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson Henry Mamothame says, “To our surprise, the presiding officer indicated that he is recusing himself into this matter. To which in our submission, we made it clear that we did not view him a biased presiding officer.”

“But he cited his reasons and part of that was the allegations that were made against the judiciary in the Madlanga Commission. So, this morning, the team made a decision that we want to review his application, hence we are filing the notice to the High Court to review his reason to recuse himself from these proceedings.”
