Large sinkholes continue to damage major roads in Mogale City – SABC News
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says lives are at risk in Mogale City as large sinkholes continue to damage the Hekpoort R563 and Zwartkops R374 roads.
The DA accuses Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, of failing to address the issue promptly.
The party says a sinkhole that appeared in February has since expanded across the R563, while another on the R374 near the Cradle of Humankind has remained unrepaired since.
DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Roads and Logistics, Evert Du Plessis, say this problem must be fixed quickly.
“Sinkholes continue to swallow Hekpoort R563 and Zwartkop’s R374 roads. Despite this being a crisis, the response from the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has been sluggish and nearly non-existent. The DA in Gauteng reiterates the demand for Diale-Tlabela to urgently repair these roads, posing a danger to motorists and pedestrians. During our oversight inspection yesterday at the R563 road, we discovered that the sinkhole that first appeared in February 2025 had not been repaired,” says Du Plessis.
