The IFP has tacitly launched its campaign for the next local government elections, calling on the public to vote for parties that will deliver on their promises.

Making its pitch to the electorate, the party stated it has never made a promise that it cannot keep.

IFP Party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa addressed party faithful on Saturday at the Jabulani Amphitheatre in Johannesburg, where the party was celebrating its 50th jubilee.

Hlabisa said as Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, he was driving reforms in the local government space to fix local government and find real solutions to the challenges faced by local municipalities.

“Local government drives transformation. It’s where lives are changed daily—through access to water, electricity, and services. Yet, many municipalities still struggle, facing financial crises, corruption, and ineffective service delivery. At the core of this crisis are resource constraints—financial, human, and institutional—that threaten to undermine progress.

“It is my firm belief that, to truly improve the lives of our people, local government must work for all—regardless of race, ethnicity, or political affiliation. It is here, at the grassroots, that transformation happens—where access to basic services can uplift entire communities. If we want real change, we must entrust our local officials with the power to serve the people—not political masters.

“In a democracy, the real power rests with you—the people. Through your vote, you have the ability to remove those who do not serve you and to choose representatives who will prioritise your needs.”

The IFP president stated that the municipal level is closest to the people—where theit voice truly matters.
