A 48-year-old suspect was arrested by police in Limpopo in connection with the murder of a 42-year-old male victim at Ga-Sikhwama village over the weekend, while his nephew faces rape charges.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that the suspect’s 30-year-old nephew and a 28-year-old accomplice were apprehended for the rape of minor children.

“It is alleged that on October 18, 2025, at approximately 08:30, two female victims were at the residence of the 28-year-old suspect, who later gave them money to purchase sweets. On Saturday, one of the victims’ mothers noticed unusual behaviour in her daughter, who was having difficulty walking, and decided to take her to the hospital. A doctor examined the minors and confirmed that they had been raped,” said Ledwaba.

Ledwaba further explained that a rape case was filed at the local police station. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested at his home, while community members caught the 30-year-old suspect after he was accused of raping the two minor girls. “Police were summoned to the scene but met with a volatile situation by the mob, and they had to call for reinforcement.”

The 48-year-old, believed to be the uncle of the 30-year-old suspect, drew a licensed firearm and fired shots at the mob, causing them to scatter. During this chaos, a man was struck by a bullet in the left thigh.

Ledwaba stated that while police and members of Public Order Policing (POP) were assessing the scene, they discovered the 30-year-old rape suspect along with his uncle.

“A 42-year-old man was later found a few metres away with a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services were called and pronounced the victim dead upon arrival at the scene. The duo were immediately arrested, and one firearm was confiscated at the scene,” said Ledwaba.

The three male suspects, including the 48-year-old uncle of the 30-year-old suspect, will soon appear before the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court to face charges of murder and rape.
