Today's weather | Heatwave warning issued for Western and Northern Cape
A heatwave warning has been issued for the Western Cape and Northern Cape on Tuesday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said hot to very hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the West Coast district until Wednesday.
A high fire danger warning has also been issued for the Bergrivier Local Municipality in the Western Cape.
Meanwhile, SAWS warned of heat wave conditions with persistently high temperatures are expected of the Richtersveld Municipality in the Northern Cape and Matzikama Municipality until Wednesday.
“Maximum temperatures in the low to mid 30s can be expected until Wednesday,” the weather forecaster said.
SAWS added that when temperatures are extremely high, people’s ability to cool their bodies through sweating is reduced.
“This can be a real threat. In an extremely hot environment, the most serious health and safety concern is heat stroke,” SAWS warned.
The forecaster said the rest of the country can expect cloudy and isolated showers with thunderstorms over the central and eastern parts of the country.
