What you need to know about the N3, M7, M13 and M1 road closures scheduled for this weekend
Part of the N3 will be closed to traffic from October for the installation of a height restriction gantry, and the placement of beams.
The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) Eastern Region Geometrics Specialist Engineer, Jason Lowe, explained that construction continues on the upgraded M13 Paradise Valley off-ramps.
Other partial closures will impact travellers on the M1 Richmond Road off-ramp and the M7 Pinetown off-ramp.
“This closure is part of the ongoing progress in the upgrade of the N3 between Westville and Paradise Valley,” he said.
Temporary Road Closures
N3 East Bound Carriageway Closure:
Closure 1: From 8 pm, Friday, October 24, 2025, to 4.30 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025. Traffic will be diverted via the N3 interchange off-ramp onto the M1 Richmond Road and then M13 during these periods.
Closure 2: From 8 pm, Saturday, October 25, 2025, to 4.30 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2025. Traffic will be diverted via the N3 interchange off ramp onto the M7 and then M13 during these periods.
Closure 3: From 8 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2025, to 4.30 pm, Monday, October 27, 2025. Traffic will be diverted via the N3 interchange off-ramp onto the M7 and then M13 during these periods.
N3 West Bound Carriageway Closure
Closure 4: From 8 pm, Friday, October 24, 2025, to 4.30 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025. Traffic will be diverted via the N3 interchange off ramp onto the M13 during these periods.
Closure 5: From 8 pm, Saturday, October 25, 2025, to 4.30 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2025. Traffic will be diverted via the N3 interchange off-ramp onto the M13 during these periods.
Lowe said trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to try and delay trips over this period, find suitable staging areas, or reroute via the M13 or M1 to avoid major congestion.
“Public transport operators are asked to ensure their drivers are aware of route closures and alternatives affecting their commuter routes. All road-users are advised to plan their routes ahead of time and, where possible, leave for destinations earlier than usual,” he added.
Closure Locations
Closure 1: N3 East Bound Closure (Pinetown to Durban): N3 East Bound fully closed at the M1 Interchange (exit 20 – M1 Richmond Road). Traffic will be diverted off the N3 onto the M1 Richmond Road via the N3 off-ramp. From the M1, traffic will be directed onto the M13 eastbound and then back onto the N3 via the M13 on ramp
Closures 2 and 3: N3 East Bound Closure (Pinetown to Durban): N3 East Bound fully closed at the M7 Interchange (exit 20 – Pinetown). Traffic will be diverted off the N3 onto the M7 Pinetown via the N3 off-ramp. From the M7, traffic will be directed onto the M13 eastbound and then back onto the N3 via the M13 on-ramp.
Closures 4 and 5: N3 West Bound Closure (Durban to Pinetown):
N3 West Bound is fully closed at the M13 Interchange (exit 17 – M13 Paradise Valley). Traffic will be diverted off the N3 onto the M13 via the N3 Paradise Valley off-ramp. From the M13 traffic will be directed onto the M7 and then back onto the N3 via the M7 interchange on ramp. As an alternative traffic can continue on the M13 to join the N3 at Key Ridge.
