Saffa leads Ulster into Lions battle



South African hooker Rob Herring will captain Ulster against the Lions at Ellis Park  on Saturday.

Juarno Augustus and Werner Kok are also part of the match 23.

Former Stormers No 8 Augustus continues his strong run of form with another start at the back of the scrum, while ex-Sharks star Kok – who scored a try against his former team last weekend – will provide impact off the bench.

Herring, who was born in Cape Town and has represented Ireland 43 times, packs down between Sam Crean and Tom O’Toole.

Rising talent Joe Hopes makes his first senior start in the second row alongside Harry Sheridan.

In the back row, Tom Stewart starts at openside, David McCann at blindside and Augustus wears the No 8 jersey. Nathan Doak and Jack Murphy continue as the halfback pairing.

Zac Ward comes in on the left wing, Jude Postlethwaite starts at inside centre alongside James Hume, and Rob Baloucoune returns on the right wing with Michael Lowry at fullback.

Kok is joined on the bench by Bryn Ward, who is in line for his senior debut.
