ANC must embrace Madlanga Commission, learn from findings: Gungubele – SABC News
African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Mondli Gungubele says ANC members must embrace the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and seek to learn from what comes out of it.
Gungubele delivered the keynote address at a ceremony to commemorate struggle stalwarts Oliver Reginald Tambo (OR Tambo) and his wife Adelaide Tambo at the Tambo Memorial Site in Wattville, Ekhuruleni.
He was acting on behalf of Deputy President Paul Mashatile, who was unable to attend the wreath-laying ceremony.
The Madlanga Commission is investigating allegations of corruption amongst politicians, the judiciary and criminals made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanzi.
Gungubele says, “Our founding principle that was adopted under the Constitution of the ANC ensured transparency and accountability, that is why the Madlanga Commission is there, the ANC wanted it to be there, so the nature of the constitution is adopted, so we should not therefore be angry at the manifestation of the Constitution that we adapted, now we may say oh, we wish it was not there but, we are there now and my late elder brother would have said, we can’t change facts, we are not going to change the Madlanga facts but, the true revolutionaries will learn from them and ask the question: how did we get here,” says Gungubele.

Meanwhile, Ekhuruleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has called on members of the ANC to use the 108th birth anniversary of Tambo to recommit to the values of the party.
OR Tambo was the longest serving president of the ANC and one of the foremost architects of South Africa’s liberation struggle. He passed away in April 1993.
Xhakaza says they must not just lay the wreath, but also renew their moral and political commitment.
“And that is commitment to unity, commitment to selflessness, commitment to international solidarity, and most importantly, an unwavering commitment to service our people and service them with humility, service them with care. So, we must continue to reflect on the legacy, on the life and the living legacy of our Tambo in all that we do,” adds Xhakaza.
