Municipality says water infrastructure syndicate attacked Zeerust Water Plant workers – SABC News
The Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality in North West says members of a water infrastructure syndicate have struck again at the Zeerust Waste Water Treatment Plant and have fired shots at a process controller. The incident happened on Sunday night.
The Municipality says the syndicate also attempted to steal power cables.

Syndicate members fled before police arrived.
“The guy who was gun shot, the first attempt happened on his thumb. They shot his right thumb and then he was hidden behind a door. The other guys were lying on the ground and they said they mustn’t go anywhere and they tried to kill him. They missed the heart and shot him here. This is not the first incident; it repeats itself,” says Senior Technician at the plant, Maribe Mothiba.
“This is not the first incident. A week ago, they went to Dinokana and you can see when the numbers are being speculated it’s the same team of people. Now they come brazenly like that. They even shoot our professionals. I mean, process controllers are hard to find. Who will come and work here? We have up to 80 cases opened,” adds Mothiba.
