Public outrage mounts as KZN community marches for Dlamini twins after Fatal Homii building incident
Outraged KwaZulu-Natal residents have taken to the streets, marching to demand justice for the Dlamini twins’ incident at the Homii apartment building.
As protesters gather at the building’s entrance, demanding accountability from absent owners, other victims share similar tragic stories.
Khaya Dlamini suffered from the loss of a son and the serious injury of his daughter in the building at Homii. To support the father of the twins, the citizens marched from the entrance gate of Homii, demanding to speak with the building owners for an explanation and accountability.
During the march, another former resident of the building, Nontuthuko Ntshongo shared similar stories and mentioned that she experienced similar issues, but she never received answers from the owner of the building since 2023. Nontuthuko Ntshongo recounted a story about her child, Andiswa.
“Andiswa had been visiting friends at Homii when, upon going out, one of her friends returned to report Andiswa’s disappearance. She said she only saw her shoe and nothing else,” Ntshongo explained.
Radio presenter Ayanda Msweli was among the public figures who offered support to the Dlamini family during their tragedy and called for public assistance. Msweli drew attention to a persistent problem in such situations, observing, “In all these tragedies, we don’t see the owners of the building. We don’t see them sympathising with these families.”
Msweli questioned, “What do you do in this country? What do you do in this building? Is this a slaughterhouse?”
Sibongile Khusi, one of the marchers, stated that they intended to march to the court where the case regarding the building owners was being reported. She expressed their desire to “hear how the situation is judged.”
Khusi added that the owners should have shown sympathy by contacting the father, as they had collected rent from him as a resident and therefore should have empathized with him.
The strike at Durban Park persists as people continue to demand answers. The building owners have yet to address the nation regarding the situation, and the march remains.
