Triple murder in Mamelodi East sparks outcry from civic movement – SABC News

Civic movement, Soil of Africa, is demanding increased law enforcement presence in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, following the brutal murder of two young women, aged between 21 and 22 years old, who were found shot dead on Sunday.

According to the movement’s chairperson Bongani Ramontja, this incident is part of a growing epidemic of gender-based violence that is terrorising South African women. This is the third such killing in the area within a week.

Police have launched an investigation, but the motive behind the gruesome killing remains unknown.

Ramontja adds: “Our demands to the SAPS include immediate deployment of all levels of policing, including tactical response teams, crime intelligence, GBV units to Mamelodi East and arrest of the perpetrators within 7 days. Failure to do so will compel the community, led by SOA, to lawfully shut down Mamelodi until justice is served. Inspection and enforcement of all Taverns, Shebeens and Liquor outlets for compliance with municipal and national laws and any business found operating illegally or serving as a hub for crime, trafficking or GBV must be shut down immediately.”
