LIVE | SAPS ballistics expert testifies at Madlanga Commission on tampered investigations linked to Armand Swart

A senior SAPS forensic ballistics expert is set to testify before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria on Monday, focusing on the murder and crime reports that were tampered with by high-ranking officials.

The expert took the stand at 9:30am is presenting forensic evidence tied to the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart, a killing investigators believe stemmed from a case of mistaken identity.

The testimony is expected to give clarity on alleged links between organised crime and elements within law enforcement.

Swart’s murder has become a focal point for the Commission, chaired by Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, as it examines claims that entrenched criminal networks have infiltrated key judicial and policing structures.

Last week’s testimony by a protected witness, identified only as Witness B, intensified scrutiny on senior judiciary figures after alleging that Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba unduly relaxed bail conditions for Katiso “KT” Molefe, an alleged member of a Big 5 cartel.

Ledwaba has denied the allegations and availed himself to appear before the commission to clear his name.

The commission’s proceedings, broadcast live to ensure transparency, have gripped national attention amid growing public demand for accountability in the justice sector.

Citizens have called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to act decisively on those found guilty of misconduct and corruption.

Hearings are expected to continue throughout the week as more witnesses are called to unpack the extent of systemic rot within the country’s criminal justice machinery.

Reminder, the commission was established to investigate grave allegations by KZN Lt-Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who revealed that there was corruption and political interference in the police force, judiciary and the metro police units.
