Suspect in Mamelodi double murder case to appear in court – SABC News
A suspect arrested in connection with the murder of two young women in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, is expected to make his first appearance in the Mamelodi Magistrates court on Wednesday.
The women, Tshiamo Moramaga, 21 and Baleseng Moramaga, 22, who are said to be cousins, were fatally shot next to a road Mamelodi East Extension 17 on Sunday.
A third victim is receiving treatment in the local healthcare facility.
Gauteng Police Spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko, says, “Acting on this information, a joint team consisting of detectives from Gauteng Provincial Serious and Violence Crime Unit, Provincial Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East Detectives arrested the suspect at a filling station in Pretoria. The suspect is expected to appear before the Mamelodi Magistrate court on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.”
The Ministry in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has welcomed the swift arrest of a suspect linked to the brutal killing of the two young women.
Ministry Spokesperson Cassius Selala has condemned this senseless act of violence that has once again robbed families and communities of young lives.
“The arrest represents a crucial step towards justice for the victims and their loved ones and sends a clear message that perpetrators of gender-based violence and femicide will face the full might of the law. Minister Chikunga expressed her appreciation for the law enforcement authorities for their rapid response and urged the criminal justice system to ensure that justice is served without delay,” says Selala.
The brutal murder has sparked outrage and added to the growing concerns about gender-based violence in South Africa especially in townships.
