Marlboro shooting might be linked to taxi violence: Police – SABC News

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says that preliminary findings suggest the shooting of the taxi boss and his bodyguard in an ambush in Marlboro might be linked to taxi violence.

The Alexandra Randburg Midrand Sandton Taxi Association (ARMSTA) Chairman has been shot and killed in Marlboro, north of Johannesburg, on Thursday morning.

One of his bodyguards also died at the scene, while a second bodyguard and a motorist were rushed to hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.

Nevhuhulwi says, “This scene started in the morning around 9 am on the same street. It was two vehicles that were travelling together, a Mahindra and an Audi. In the Audi, one person and in the Mahindra, apparently, it was securities, four securities and they were attacked by suspects driving a white BMW and they fired shots at them.”

She says the suspects are still at large.

“Currently, two people have already been declared dead, while three have been taken to hospital with injuries. The police are on the lookout for the suspects. The vehicle that allegedly attacked these people was found a few kilometres away from the scene. It was found abandoned.”– Additional reporting by Diteboho Ntimane.
