SASSA addresses misinformation on double social grants

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed circulating claims of double social grant payments, warning the public not to fall for viral misinformation on social media.

SASSA expressed concern over the spread of false information, noting that such claims have no basis in fact.

SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi emphasised the importance of relying on credible sources.

“We appeal to our beneficiaries to only rely on credible sources of information on our official social media pages,” Letsatsi said.

“Before anyone can share any information pertaining to social grants, they must first verify its authenticity to avoid disseminating false information that may cause anxiety and stress to our beneficiaries.”

The agency reminded the public that social grants are the livelihood of more than 19 million South Africans.

“When people create and disseminate false information, it creates untold panic and stress to the millions of our vulnerable beneficiaries. Therefore, we appeal to all South Africans to stop these acts and our beneficiaries to be vigilant and cautious at the information they consume,” SASSA said.

Social grant payment dates for November 2025 are as follows:

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, November 4.
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, November 5.
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, November 6.

SASSA reaffirmed that no announcements regarding double payments of social grants have been made by either the Agency or the government.
