State to further probe Sibiya’s assault claims in Meyiwa trial – SABC News

The State in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is expected to continue zooming into accused one Muzi Sibiya’s assault allegations.
Sibiya has been under cross-examination at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
Sibiya alleged that he was assaulted by the police on 30 May and 5 June 2020. The assault allegedly led to him signing a confession statement, and pointing out the murder crime scene.
State Prosecutor George Baloyi poked holes in Sibiya’s testimony about the alleged assault, pointing out differences in the police officers who were allegedly present during the assault.
Baloyi: So, you do confirm that you said earlier on that you were not assaulted by TRT police there at Vosloorus municipal area?
Sibiya: I never said I was assaulted by the TRT members. I do say that I was assaulted by the police officers wearing their civilian clothing and the traffic cops.
Baloyi: I just missed this point. Did you say you cannot remember how many police vehicles were there or are you able to give a number of police vehicles that were there?
Sibiya: I feel that this is not a fair trial in the manner in which it’s going on.
Baloyi: Mr Sibiya, we have to test your evidence and we have to ask questions, that’s the point of this exercise.
