Alleged insurance fraud murder accused back in court – SABC News

The case of a former police officer, Rachel Kutumela, her sister, Anna Shokane, and daughter, Flora Shokan, is expected to resume in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Tuesday.

The three allegedly benefitted from R10 million worth of insurance claims after the death of nine civilians.

The accused have been in custody since last year. They face 32 charges, including murder and fraud and defeating the ends of justice.

During their bail application, the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court ruled that Kutumela, her sister and daughter are likely to interfere with state witnesses if released on bail.

The matter had been postponed on numerous occasions.

Initially, Kutumela applied for bail alone while her co-accused indicated that they were not ready to do so.

She, however, decided to abandon the bail application after being cross-examined.

The three of them later applied for bail, which was denied last month.
