Intelligence Head General Dumisani Khumalo has revealed how Deputy National Police Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya sometimes utilizes a car registered under a serial hijacker of vehicles.

General Khumalo has testified before the Madlanga Commission that the Toyota bakkie that is sometimes driven by Sibiya is registered under Stuart James Scharnick.

“The list is reflected. There are lots of questions. If you commit so many thefts and hijackings within the space of two years and you are found guilty, how many years and when are you saving your sentences, because everything is like in a very short space of time, that is part of investigation that is still ongoing. That is the criminal profile of the owner of the bakkie.”

Matlala arrest

Khumalo also revealed that extra task force members from outside the province of Gauteng were deployed to the home of alleged criminal cartel member Vusuzumi “Cat” Matlala in a search and question operation in December 2024.

Matlala has been arrested for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.

General Khumalo has testified that Matlala had at least 20 people who are former task force members, protecting him.

“A threat assessment that had been done on the second target or second operation which was a search and questioning of Matlala. Based on the profiles that we have done of his more than 20 protectors that are former task force members. So, we were not able to do our own work if we bring the combat team that is less trained than what we were going to face.”

“KT” Molefe arrest

Khumalo named a Mr. Boy Mthethwa as the person who activated the Hawks on the day of the arrest of Katiso “KT” Molefe.

Molefe, an alleged criminal cartel member and murder accused, was arrested in December for the murder of Vereeniging Engineer, Armand Swart.

General Khumalo has testified that Mthethwa tried to cross over the demarcated line on the day of Molefe’s arrest and when that didn’t work, he said he’d call the Hawks.

“When the target was neutralized, that is when Mr. Mthethwa came and attempted to cross over the red tape. The demarcated neutralized space. He tried to introduce himself as a brother to Molefe. Still, that didn’t work coz it doesn’t work.”
