Police probe attempted murder case after shooting involving Mogotsi – SABC News

Police are investigating an attempted murder case following a shooting in Vosloorus, Gauteng, on Monday night.  The shooting involved businessman Brown Mogotsi.

Mogotsi is one of the implicated people in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations of political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.

Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “So, at around 10 o’clock last night, we received a call, reports of a shooting in this area of Vosloorus. It was actually a private security individual who was making the call. The Acting Station Commander then dispatched resources personnel to that particular crime scene. When we arrived, we found Brown Mogotsi on the scene, and we interviewed him. He alleges that there was a white bakkie which was following him and started shooting at his vehicle. We then mobilised the necessary forensic teams to attend to the scene.”

Mogotsi is yet to make an official statement on the incident.

Mathe says investigators will be reaching out to Mogotsi to ensure a statement is taken down.

“We did try to get a statement from Mr Brown Mogotsi yesterday already and encouraged him to open a case and he refused at the time, citing that he was fearing for his life. So, he has promised to present himself at the Vosloorus Police Station at 8 o’clock this morning with his lawyer to open a case so that our investigators can take down his statement, but as you can see, 8 o’clock has passed, we are still waiting for him. The Acting Station Commander did indicate that she will also reach out to him and remind him that there is a statement that needs to be taken down.”
