SAPS says Brown Mogotsi 'uncooperative' after alleged attempted hit on his life
Brown Mogotsi, the controversial North West-based businessman is yet to open a case of attempted murder after his bullet-ridden car was found on Mdhlebe Street, Vosloorus Extension 25, on Monday night.
The SAPS has described him as uncooperative in the investigation.
Mogotsi, who has been linked to alleged political interference by some of the witnesses at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and the Parliamentary ad hoc committee – both are investigating allegations of political interference at the highest levels of the police.
The incident takes place just days before Mogotsi’s scheduled appearance at Parliament’s ad hoc committee later this month, where he is expected to provide testimony on his alleged links to controversial members of a drug cartel, criminal syndicates and his alleged connection to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Speaking outside the Vosloorus Police Station, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Mogotsi’s phone remained off, while in his previous communication with the police, Mogotsi promised to lay a formal criminal complaint on the alleged hit on his life, but had not done so by midday on Tuesday.
“We need to get to the bottom of what exactly happened. Whether Mr Mogotsi presents himself next week for the statement to be taken, we are continuing with the investigation in the case of attempted murder, and when the case has been finalised, I think we will make those details public. His statement is important to assist us in ascertaining what may have transpired last night,” Mathe stated.
Neighbours who claim to have heard gunshots, indicated that the scene in which the incident happened has become a hive for criminal activity in the area.
“I have since moved away from the room I was renting. I am glad I am moving out because of the crime situation, one person said.
“I was sleeping but I did hear gunshots,” said another resident.
Another said she was also asleep when she heard the gunshots, adding that it was very close to her house.
