Crime Intelligence Head, General Dumisani Khumalo, has confirmed that it came to his attention that suspended National Deputy Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya urged Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, to file false theft charges against him and his team.

Last month, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry heard how Matlala was persuaded by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Sibiya to open a case over his missing Rolex watch.

Witness C testified that Matlala admitted in a recording that his watch was never stolen to begin with.

Khumalo is still giving testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry sitting in Pretoria.

The Crime Intelligence Head says last December was not a festive one for him and his team, due to false accusations of theft and the subsequent disbanding of the Political Killings Task Team, which is partly the reason for the Commission of Inquiry.
