NPA formally charges Gigaba in Transnet locomotive scandal – SABC News
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has formally charged former Public Enterprises minister, Malusi Gigaba. His charges relate to irregularities in the procurement of multi-billion-rand locomotives at Transnet.
In a statement posted on social media, Gigaba’s office says he received a notice from the NPA to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on charges of corruption.
Gigaba handed himself over to police in Pretoria on Friday morning.
As SABC’s Samkele Maseko reports, this matter relates to the charges that were laid by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema some time ago regarding the shenanigans that transpired at state-owned company Transnet at that particular time. At the time of these particular shenanigans, Transnet was allegedly captured by the Gupta brothers when Gigaba was Minister of Public Enterprises.
