Xolani Khumalo to be sworn in as ActionSA councillor in Ekurhuleni
ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Xolani Khumalo, will officially be sworn in as a councillor in the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Khumalo’s appointment marks a key milestone in ActionSA’s broader strategy to strengthen its governance capacity within the metro ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
His new role will provide him with direct insight into the municipality’s systems, operations, and challenges, a move the party believes will help lay the foundation for effective and accountable leadership.
According to ActionSA, the position will also bridge Khumalo’s transition from community activism to formal political leadership, equipping him to better serve Ekurhuleni residents and advance the party’s mission to “fix the city.”
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by several senior ActionSA leaders, including Party President Herman Mashaba, National Chairperson Michael Beaumont, National Spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni MP, and Gauteng Chairperson Funzi Ngobeni MPL.
Following the official proceedings, the leadership team will address the media alongside Khumalo, the Ekurhuleni caucus, and regional representatives.
The event underscores ActionSA’s commitment to building strong, experienced leadership within key municipalities as it continues to position itself as a credible alternative in South African politics.
Last month, ActionSA announced Khumalo as its mayoral candidate for the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Party president Mashaba made the announcement, stating that Khumalo was an “ethical leader”.
“A fearless, ethical leader, Khumalo is ready to reclaim the Ekurhuleni from criminals, provide basic services and ensure growth and jobs,” he said on X.
