WATCH: KZN man turns viral speeding incident into comedy gold

A RESERVOIR Hills civil engineer caught speeding at 217km/h in his BMW M3 has embraced his newfound notoriety by participating in a humorous social media skit about his expensive mistake.

Despite the levity, authorities warn that such speeds remain a leading cause of road fatalities in KZN.

Shakendra Bhagwandin, a 43-year-old civil engineer, was caught speeding at a staggering 217km/h in a 120km/h zone along the N2 near Park Rynie on September 28.

He was driving his BMW M3, without a front number plate, when he was stopped by traffic officers and fined R35 000.

Bhagwandin’s arrest and conviction went viral on social media and this inspired a humorous skit on Tik Tok.

It poked fun at the situation, opening with a tongue-in-cheek exchange:

“You are the famous ou in the paper — you got one fine with the kerels! What happened? You speeding?”

Bhagwandin replied: “Ya, that car is giving me some attention.”

The banter continued, with another quip: “217 km/h? Slow for an M3!”

When asked about his profession, the skit jests.

“See in the papers, you’re a civil engineer?”

“Testing the roads also,” he replied.

The humorous tone continued with references to his missing number plate.

“The new G80s are invisible, no front number plates. I thought that would work for me, but it didn’t.”

And when asked how fast the police had to go to catch him, Bhagwandin quipped: “They never chased me, they stopped me on the road.”

While the skit has provided some comic relief, authorities have warned that speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious road accidents in KwaZulu-Natal.
