Hawks confiscate counterfeit alcohol worth R400 000 in Ekurhuleni
The Hawks have confiscated counterfeit alcohol valued at about R400 000 in the City of Ekurhuleni. The raid was part of intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal liquor circulating across the country.
Authorities say counterfeit alcohol continues to pose a serious risk to public health and safety.
The operation targeted three properties across the region and led to the seizure of various fake alcohol brands. The Hawks raided three premises in Germiston, Boksburg and Edenvale after securing search and seizure warrants.
The operation followed test purchases of suspected counterfeit liquor, which confirmed that fake alcohol was being distributed.
During the searches, officers uncovered various illicit liquor products and counterfeit cigarettes bearing well-known brand names.
All seized items were taken to a designated depot for further investigation, with three case dockets expected to be registered. -Report by Culvin Mabasa
